About Hocking College Cheerleading

Hocking College cheerleaders take pride in promoting school spirit, encouraging positive crowd participation at HC events. Hocking College cheerleaders are excellent ambassadors for the College and participate in off-campus performances and events. All squad members are expected to be honest, respectful, have a strong work ethic, and uphold the Hocking College brand.

General Information

The Hocking College Cheerleading program has one team. The team is open to males and females. The team is composed of a maximum of 16 persons who are expected to cheer year-round for home and away Football and Men's Basketball games both in Ohio and out of state.

The Hocking College Cheerleading program has one team. The team is open to males and females. The team is composed of a maximum of 16 persons who are expected to cheer year-round for home and away Football and Men's Basketball games both in Ohio and out of state.  Tryouts for the entire season take place each May. Preference is given to those with tumbling and/or stunting experience.

Each member is to maintain a full-time academic status to remain eligible. To be a successful athlete at Hocking College, you must be successful in academics as well. The minimum GPA that is to be maintained to be academically eligible is 2.0, but the Hocking College Cheerleading team will not be satisfied with settling at or around this GPA. Grades will be turned in to the coach at midterm and finals. Members with a GPA lower than 2.0 will be immediately suspended from any games or performances.

Hocking College Colors - Blue, gold, green, black, and/or white.
Females-Cheer shorts (no spandex underneath) form-fitting shirts, hair pulled back, cheer shoes *please no lotion, jewelry, or excessive makeup.

Males-Athletic shorts, t-shirt, and athletic shoes

We perform at least one choreographed dance a year. 

Virtual Try-Outs for 2020-2021 Season

In light of COVID-19, the cheerleading team will be hosting virtual try-outs. Below is specific information regarding our 2020-2021 try-outs:

  • Candidates will have a brief online/virtual interview with the coach.
  • All rookie cheer team candidates need to send a complete all paperwork and send a video that contains footage of their stunting abilities. Please identify which position you are prior to the skills. Tryouts are due May 9, 2020.
  • Candidates should wear a black tank/fitted t-shirt and black shorts. Hair should be pulled away from face.
