Hocking College Golf Shows Grit and Growth in Early Fall Tournaments

The Hocking College Men's Golf Team has been busy this fall, competing in three challenging tournaments that tested their skill, resilience, and team chemistry. With standout performances and record-breaking scores, the young Hawks are proving they belong among strong collegiate competition.

UC Invitational – September 8

The season kicked off at the University of Charleston Invitational, where the Hawks faced one of the toughest fields they'll see all year. Competing against NCAA Division II and III programs across five states, Hocking held their own on the demanding Berry Hills Country Club course.
Freshman Tanner Wood led the team with a 75 in the first round, while Ian Tricker made headlines with a hole-in-one on the 175-yard Par 3 fourth hole. Despite a tough second round, the team showed resilience, finishing the tournament with a solid 318. Landen Bray and Mark Behrend led the final round with matching 79s.

Ohio Dominican Match – September 14

In a head-to-head match against Ohio Dominican University's "B" squad at Lancaster Country Club, the Hawks saw Tanner Wood once again shine with the tournament's low score of 75. Isaac Ewersen and Ian Tricker followed with scores of 82 and 83, respectively. Though Hocking fell short by 20 strokes, the match provided valuable experience and highlighted the team's depth.

Roger Merb Invitational – September 23

The Hawks delivered their best performance of the season at the prestigious Roger Merb Invitational, finishing 7th out of 19 teams on the historic Donald Ross-designed Elks Golf Club.
Tanner Wood was electric, shooting rounds of 70 and 71 for a 3-under-par total of 141—the lowest tournament score in Hocking College history. His performance earned him a spot on the All-Tournament Team, a remarkable achievement for a freshman.
The team's first-round score of 303 was a school record, with strong contributions from Tricker (74), Ewersen (79), Behrend (80), and Munro (83). The second round saw continued consistency, with Tricker and Behrend shooting 76 and 77, respectively.

Looking Ahead

With a young roster full of promise and a growing list of accomplishments, the Hocking College Men's Golf Team is building momentum. As the season progresses, expect more strong showings and continued development from this determined group of student-athletes.
