Hawks Pack their Defense; Win Big at LCCC
Hocking College WBB Forces 43 Turnovers in Dominant Win Over LCCC
Elyria, Ohio — Hocking College put together a stifling defensive performance on the road, defeating Lorain County Community College 77–40 in a commanding conference victory.
The key to the game was Hocking's relentless defensive pressure. The Hawks forced 43 Commodore turnovers, disrupting LCCC's offense from start to finish. They also limited Lorain County's leading scorer, Abbey Schmitz, to 11 points, holding her nine points below her season average.
Hocking capitalized on those turnovers with balanced scoring and strong play on both ends of the floor. Hazely Wagner led the Hawks with 16 points, while adding 6 rebounds, 4 assists, and 4 steals. Aliyah Brock followed with 12 points, along with 3 steals and a block.
Lilly Weaver and Gianna Boyce each scored 9 points. Weaver was active defensively, collecting 8 rebounds and 4 steals, while Boyce added 3 steals. Hawa Ba contributed 8 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 blocks, and Carmyn Woods recorded 7 points, 3 rebounds, and 3 blocks in the paint.
Aubree Carroll chipped in 6 points, 3 rebounds, and 2 steals as the Hawks continued to apply pressure throughout their rotation.
With defensive intensity, depth, and consistent scoring, Hocking College controlled the game from the opening tip and never looked back. The win moves Hocking to 14-5 overall, 6-3 in OCCAC play. The Hawks play another road game at Miami- Middletown on Wednesday Feb. 4 at 5:30 pm.
